Hi All,
I copied this post from earlier topic (Improving this Forum) as I think it is important. It has been re-written to make things a bit easier / clearer.
I think we need to spend more time improving our own work / forum, and building links to it - this is one important use of our time at the moment I think (see building links below, and we can discuss how to improve this forum and jointly build a website from its content over time - though we should get the system in place reasonably soon - am working / thinking on this).
Content:
1. What does the Wave Structure of Matter Explain
2. Social Network / Bookmarking Sites
3. Other big sites that we should work with
1. What does the Wave Structure of Matter Explain
We need a page so that we can refer to that for arguments when at other forums.
Let's jointly write this up over next 3 to 6 months. I will be writing up simple summaries at the top of all my physics philosophy pages - so they will be useful to link to in above article, and at the same time use these arguments to reply to people at forums quickly / easily and build links to these pages in the process. (I have created a new post for this page).
2. Social Network / Bookmarking Sites
You will now notice that at the bottom of forum there are links to main social networking websites. These are also on every page at spaceandmotion.com. This makes it easy to create hundreds of links to our work very quickly - so i hope that you will join all these sites (pain to begin, but once a member it is easy to add content to them).
The method I use is in three steps;
a) Click on all 14 links - so they are all downloading in tabs in Firefox (or latest version of IE). The links use javascript and should then have URL and page Title automatically included.
b) Copy tags and add them to relevant sections (most use tags) in each of the opened pages.
c) Copy a nice quote or summary from page and add it in the notes section of each page (where relevant) and then submit.
It takes me about 10 minutes to add a page to all these sites - but given that we are using about 30 tags, and adding to 14 sites, this equates to around 300 inbound links from these sites - and also gets this knowledge visible to many millions of users.
The best strategy is to do this once a day with pages / work we are trying to promote (both at this forum and at spaceandmotion website).
Currently spaceandmotion website ranks between 10 and 20 for some very important physics / philosophy search terms. e.g.
quantum physics 18
quantum theory 20
theory of relativity 15
the big bang theory 14
big bang theory 16
cosmology 50
metaphysics 25
philosophy 120
With a little bit of help we can get these in the top ten I suspect - so would love people to add a page a day (related to these subjects).
You could start with quantum physics pages as they have tags in them and i am working on them over next few weeks.

3. Other big sites that we should work with
Related to above - we need to strategically use other big websites to both gain visibility, and build strong links back to our sites.
I suggest we start with around 10 sites to target, as listed below;
b) Wikipedia - please join and then post a comment of support for re-inclusion of WSM articles - at my haselhurst talk page (keep it polite, kind, short, to the point, truthful). Any queries just ask me at forum (preferably by private mail).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Haselhurst
d) My Space, YouTube, Google Video, MSN Soapbox.
We need to create a handful of videos that explain the central ideas of WSM in a nice sincere simple sensible manner (diagrams would be necessary too). Then upload them to main video websites
See;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ekp1OKi6e4o
Notice Milo's video has been seen 1,500 times in 3 weeks which is pretty good - then use top right search box and search philosophy, then physics, you will see milo's video come up #1 for both in youtubes search - tell me why?!
Then you start to understand how to exploit these big websites!!
(I have done this with the philosophy shop at cafepress, where it has been a top ten shop for past 9 months (and now make a living from it) and I am working on amazon at moment! But it applies to all websites where you can build pages and links on them.
Please also watch video of Bertrand Russell - he is exactly correct - and we must learn to write / argue precisely, carefully, with great simplicity and clarity. Truth gives you that power, but it is a skill that is developed over many years of reading thinking and writing. We all must work on improving in this area.

(I am not happy with some posts here drifting off topic - not providing concise arguments - we need to improve)

c) Wikiquote - The spaceandmotion website has lots of good quotes, so it is easy to justify including content on their site.
http://www.wikiquote.org/
d) The big blog sites.
http://www.blogger.com/home (will add more later)
You can start your own blog (we can also provide a forum blog that updates what we are doing each week), but probably one of the best things to do is search blogs for relevant subjects, then add comment and link to WSM article / website.
e) Amazon.
Create an account - then you can build "So you like to know about" and "Listmania" pages. See my early efforts at;
http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/AF59DVFPXJUWD/
http://www.amazon.com/gp/richpub/syltguides/fullview/11HZWWHS4MHP8/
And build links to Milo's book;
http://www.amazon.com/Exploring-Physics-Universe-Adventurers-Guide/dp/0962778710/
f) DMOZ - Submit WSM pages into main physics philosophy metaphysics evolution, etc. categories. (Should wait till spaceandmotion pages are better written up, and also our own forum / site as it hopefully develops with a group of us working together).
http://dmoz.org/
There are more websites - I will refer to our help page and add the most important later.
http://www.spaceandmotion.com/how-to-help-the-wave-structure-of-matter.htm#blogs
But this is more than enough to start with - and it is fast and easy once you learn how (the internet is a big place - we must be efficient at creating concise good quality content, then mass producing it at big websites out there as a group - a bit hard to begin, but much easier once you get setup / learn how sites work).
The idea would be to just focus on say ten most important pages from spaceandmotion website, this forum, specifically targeting above keywords)
These are my thoughts. I wonder what you think? I am trying to create an easy way for people to help us (and for us to help ourselves!) that is efficient use of our time on internet.
I will be mainly away from forum for next two weeks - need to get back to work on my quantum theory pages, and help Karene with some sexuality stuff.
But we have direction, knowledge, a small group. A bit of effort and we can have substantial effect over next six months (given the power of the internet).
Cheers,
Geoff
PS - I think we should aim to make concise summaries of all important topics discussed at this forum thus far, they should then appear at start of each post (discussions follow) and then convert short summaries also into website pages in proper html format. Need to think of easiest way to do this - but on internet short clear summaries are essential. Will get back to you on this. |
