"When forced to summarize the general theory of relativity in one sentence: Time and space and gravitation have no separate existence from matter. ... Physical objects are not in space, but these objects are spatially extended ... thus the concept of particles cannot play a fundamental part, ... and can only appear as a limited region in space in which the field strength or energy density are particularly high."
(Albert Einstein, Metaphysics of Relativity, 1950)
"It is my firm belief that the last seven decades of the twentieth century will be characterized in history as the dark ages of theoretical physics. ... The quantum world is a world of waves, not particles."
(Carver Mead, Professor Emeritus at Caltech. Received $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize in 1999)

| What determines the dimensionality of space? Does space itself determine the number of dimensions in which in/out waves propagate or does some other factor determine how many dimensions in/out waves should propagate in? |

Hi Nashid,
Sorry for late reply - interesting question.
As I see it according to WSM.
i) Dimension is caused by matter interactions in Space.
ii) Matter interactions are caused by spherical standing waves in space.
iii) Spherical standing waves require four variables to define, three for shape of sphere, one for motion (wave motion). This is equivalent to Descartes 3D Cartesian coordinate system, plus time (fourth dimension) caused by (wave) motion.
iv) This then explains why space and time are united, and can be described as a four dimensional space-time continuum (Einstein's relativity).
v) However, I do not know why space propagates spherical waves - but what ultimately exists has no reason / cause - it just exists.
Hope this helps a bit,
Please stay in touch - over time it will be interesting to discuss your CMS and maybe a few ideas about building a large website scraping quality info from other sites.

I agree in a infinite space, all possible permutations of universes and lifeforms must/should exist?

Yes Iam on MSN, AOL and Yahoo, Iam rarely on skype but Iam trying to remember to log on their regularly and Iam also trying to get my microphone to work on this linux box. Sometimes it takes a while to get stuff to work on linux . I may also give you a call sometime when I pick up a new phone card.
Cheers,

Hello All
I agree with haselhurst post above.
But! there is always a BUT!!!!!!.
Dimension is not matter itself as is time as is space.
Dimension is a word that describes a 3 dimensional object with or without matter.
Once matter comes into the picture we can give it a dimension.
I could be wrong, it will not be the first time or the last time.
Since coming onto this web page, I have found that I know more of what I do not know. |
