"When forced to summarize the general theory of relativity in one sentence: Time and space and gravitation have no separate existence from matter. ... Physical objects are not in space, but these objects are spatially extended ... thus the concept of particles cannot play a fundamental part, ... and can only appear as a limited region in space in which the field strength or energy density are particularly high."
(Albert Einstein, Metaphysics of Relativity, 1950)
"It is my firm belief that the last seven decades of the twentieth century will be characterized in history as the dark ages of theoretical physics. ... The quantum world is a world of waves, not particles."
(Carver Mead, Professor Emeritus at Caltech. Received $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize in 1999)

Hey everybody,
This website is getting sweeter and sweeter by the day. Finally the forums are up and running. I'm really excited.
My name is Steven Starkey and I live in Orlando, FL. I work with Beers which you'll no doubt be seeing on here as well.
I am 25 years and still in school but will be finishing up my BS in Psychology. Kind of worthless really in the work force so I've been taking nursing classes as well. I find that to be more exciting and fulfilling then the thought of trying to run my own practice under the constraints of the insurance companies.
Nice to meet everyone and I look forward to some great discussions taking place in these forums. |

Hi, welcome.
You say you work with Beers? You are studying psychoogy and he philosophy - so are you privy to info on this collective consciousness thesis, then? I wouldn't have a clue where to start, but I'm sure I'll learn from you both.

Yes we debate his theory of Collective Consciousness quite a bit. I definately lean more toward a belief in Jung's Collective UNconscious, however, I am open to a collective conscious because I cannot prove there ISN'T one! I think it has some merit.
I haven't decided if I believe in psychic phenomena and that holds a lot of weight for me on the collective consciousness. I think if there is a collective consciousness then a psychic would most likely be someone more sensitive to it and perhaps in some ways be able to manipulate it.
The biggest problem with collective conscious is that what is pictured is The Borg from Star Trek fame. I'm not sure if that is an example of a collective conscious to the extreme or if it would be more accurate then we suspect.
Perhaps others will have some further incite into the matter. I'm still kicking the idea around a bit. |

I have never read or thought about the issue before - that's the great thing about these discussions, I guess.
All I can think to say is that there must be a huge distinction between voluntary collective conscious and determined collective conscious: if it's voluntary, then its just efficient communication, if it's not, then its a bit of a threat on individualism. |

| actually, I think the wording has gotten us all befuddled. I don't actually call my theory "collective consciousness:. I don't think our will is shared or that our mind is part of a greater, bigger whole mind, I merely think that the action of consciousness is not as individual as it appears and that on some level we communicate non verbally and not through and for of language. I think that either our emotions or some form of our energy that comprises our minds is connected to others. This would explain many of the "Thought coincidences" that seem to occur with regularity, it was also help to explain the power of music to effect emotion and of group or mob psychology. I believe this connection is a natural progression of Darwinian evolution and that it is in no way metaphysically odd. What is exciting to me is that WSM makes this theory physically possible as providing a medium for this transfer. I have posted a more detailed account of my very rough ideas in the philosophy of mind/ consciousness section on this board. please check it out! |

Hello Beers and Steve,
I was going to write to you guys soon if you did not join the forum. I think it is a brilliant place to discuss things and collectively build really quite profound and revolutionary knowledge for humanity. We are discussing what we actually are as humans, how we exist in space and move about. How the mind has evolved, how it works, how it is interconnected with other minds (as it seems it must be if it is caused by motions of matter, which WSM explains as being interconnected wave motions of space).
I will reply in detail over next week. Your discussions have caused me to think on new and novel ideas (thanks to Chris also).
It has been a delight for me to read such a discussion. It has brightened up my morning.
So thanks, absolutely great that you are here.
