"When forced to summarize the general theory of relativity in one sentence: Time and space and gravitation have no separate existence from matter. ... Physical objects are not in space, but these objects are spatially extended ... thus the concept of particles cannot play a fundamental part, ... and can only appear as a limited region in space in which the field strength or energy density are particularly high."
(Albert Einstein, Metaphysics of Relativity, 1950)
"It is my firm belief that the last seven decades of the twentieth century will be characterized in history as the dark ages of theoretical physics. ... The quantum world is a world of waves, not particles."

I'm a little confused as to why there are now public forum topics that are basically creating a website. Doesn't this undermine the exclusive posting system for main pages? I'm not complaining, just curious.

Hi Chris,
I thought that it would be nice to stimulate discussion (and give it some foundation / direction) by putting short introductions to the subjects in each Forum Section. These have been set as 'Sticky' or 'Announcement' so they always stay on top of list, and they have also been 'Locked' so only 'Administrators' can edit them.
To discuss these subjects users need to create a New Post (rather than post a reply).
Content from the best of the discussions can then be added to these top posts (try to keep best quality work at top of lists).
We also plan on putting links on our website pages to each of these Forum Sections. So, for example, people can read a web page article on Education and then just have to click one link and it will open relevant page in Philosophy of Education Forum.
Hopefully this will be done over next few months.
We will see how it goes!
And I think Karene has done a great job. I wish I had another 20 people like her so committed to this work! (then we could change the world!)
But then Rome was not built in a day!
Cheers,
Geoff

Hello,
I miss the editing feature, since it enables a person to correct spelling errors. I mispelled "stabilize" in one of my posts--- I can't fix it, and it really bugs me.
Sometimes a person doesn't see these errors til after committing to the post, and it's always nice to be able to go back and redeem oneself to make a better impression on the next NEW viewer who might read the post.
Respectfully,
Robert Kernodle |

Updated 5th April, 2005
Hi Robert,
I had removed editing features for regular members as i was worried that malicious users could come along and delete other people's posts. However I have (on April 1st) changed things so that now any registered user can edit their posts (guests can only post, they cannot edit / change posts).
I have added you (and Chris, Philippe) to 'Art Science Evolution Society Culture' group which has moderator privileges.
Hope this helps.
Geoff
PS - If you download latest Google Toolbar (beta version) it has a spell check option when filling out forms (i.e. posting on forum). Karene and i both find it very useful. See;

|
|
Updated 5th April, 2005
Hi Chris, Robert, WSMers,
On April 1st I changed structure of Forum. I have also edited above posts to reflect these changes (and try and minimise confusion). I think new layout is better / more simple.
As you can see, there is no longer a public forum and moderator only section - they have been amalgamated into one!
However, the introductory posts that Karene and I have added to most sections are now 'locked' so you can't post replies to them / edit them. Instead you just need to post using 'new topic' and carry on discussion in new post. Relevant comments can be added to 'locked' posts over time to ensure best quality work stays at top of each forum / subject.
Sorry for changes - but i am learning myself. I think it is better, just takes a while to adapt to things.
Any suggestions to improve things are most welcome.
