"When forced to summarize the general theory of relativity in one sentence: Time and space and gravitation have no separate existence from matter. ... Physical objects are not in space, but these objects are spatially extended ... thus the concept of particles cannot play a fundamental part, ... and can only appear as a limited region in space in which the field strength or energy density are particularly high."
(Albert Einstein, Metaphysics of Relativity, 1950)
"It is my firm belief that the last seven decades of the twentieth century will be characterized in history as the dark ages of theoretical physics. ... The quantum world is a world of waves, not particles."
(Carver Mead, Professor Emeritus at Caltech. Received $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize in 1999)

I find the idea of a wave hard to picture correctly. I understand that a wave is a structure of substance which has a seris of ups and downs or in and outs as in spherical waves... But does 'wave' describe the motion of a substance or the substance in itself? If 'wave' is a description of the motion of substance then how can we explain the substance which is in this motion?
probally a nice simple answer or correction here... |

Hello again!
One Thing. Space. Space moves ('vibrates in waves', I think!) to create our 3-d (finite) Universe. Because it is made up of (standing spherical) waves, it necessarily has wave-like properties.
It takes quite some time (and a lot of reading/contemplating/re-organising of thoughts!) for a whole 'other' way of viewing Reality to set in... Our physical minds are only just coming to terms with the fact they have a 'whole other side' to them (understanding of their own conscious aspect). In evolutionary terms, even a quarter of a million years isn't really that long for such a 'leap' to take place...
Say 'Hi' to the valleys for me!

A Wave requires a Wave Medium, which must be slightly elastic. So rather than saying a 'wave', we should be more complete and say a 'wave motion of space', where space is the wave medium. Space must propagate spherical waves to explain what we observe of matter interactions. The sphere is a 3D structure, the (spherical) wave motion explains fourth dimension of time / activity / flux / change.
It is these spherical waves that flow in to wave center 'particle' that enable us to see and interact with other matter around us in universe.
Please read Einstein pages for more information.

Sorry to be abrupt - only have a few minutes.
