"When forced to summarize the general theory of relativity in one sentence: Time and space and gravitation have no separate existence from matter. ... Physical objects are not in space, but these objects are spatially extended ... thus the concept of particles cannot play a fundamental part, ... and can only appear as a limited region in space in which the field strength or energy density are particularly high."
(Albert Einstein, Metaphysics of Relativity, 1950)
"It is my firm belief that the last seven decades of the twentieth century will be characterized in history as the dark ages of theoretical physics. ... The quantum world is a world of waves, not particles."
(Carver Mead, Professor Emeritus at Caltech. Received $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize in 1999)

Dear Friends- Just found this site and am excited to read more and be a part of it. It is great to be among like-minded people.
My deepest life-long interests include religion/philosophy/theology. I wrote a book entitled Beyond Religion that challenges orthodox theology. I am working on the next one.
I believe that we are living in the most interesting time in the history of the world. It seems to me that the continuous evolution of ideas is progressing rapidly now, and I love it!
Anyway, it is great to be here! - Allen |

Hi Allen,
I do hope we're not all that like-minded - a bit of fiendly conflict can go a long way. Beyond Religion sounds interesting - ehat is its argument? |

Hi Chris: By like-minded I mean we share some common interests. The diverse opinions and views in those interests make it all the more interesting for discussions.
The argument, if you will, is that Christian theology of the past 1700 years or so, has as its basis, suppositions and beliefs that do not accurately reflect the intent of the revelators of the message. I present the spiritual/mystical basis of theology that is not generally taught in most organized religions. |

Hi again,
You write of the 'revelators'. Do you believe thta Jesus and his disciples are real historical figures, or characters in the story themselves? |

| HI - I think they really existed just as we exist and they caught a glimpse of something that transcends this human experience. Each one us can have that experience in some measure and, in my opinion, that is where our efforts should be devoted. (I do not mean should as in a moral judgment but in the sense that that is where we will find fulfillment). |

Hello Allan,
Welcome to our little forum (still in its infancy!)
I agree that we live in a very exciting / interesting time!
Your book does sound very interesting and I look forward to learning more about your ideas within the 'theology / religion' section.
Just curious, how do you think Jesus (and his disciples) 'caught a glimpse of something that transcends this human experience.'
And how do you see that each of us can have this experience? Through study or meditation for example?
Kindness,
Karene |
