"When forced to summarize the general theory of relativity in one sentence: Time and space and gravitation have no separate existence from matter. ... Physical objects are not in space, but these objects are spatially extended ... thus the concept of particles cannot play a fundamental part, ... and can only appear as a limited region in space in which the field strength or energy density are particularly high."
(Albert Einstein, Metaphysics of Relativity, 1950)
"It is my firm belief that the last seven decades of the twentieth century will be characterized in history as the dark ages of theoretical physics. ... The quantum world is a world of waves, not particles."
(Carver Mead, Professor Emeritus at Caltech. Received $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize in 1999)

Hello all,
My name is Kevin. Although most call me Beers ( last name). I stumbled across spaceandmotion.com sometime last year with a coworker and friend of mine ( whom will also post on here I'm sure) while we were killing time during slow periods. I am still amazed at the collection of ideas and works of great thinkiers to be found here. I am a philosophy major at the University of Central Florida and I am endlessly fascinated with so many of these topics.
I have never before posted on a message board although I have read many of them. I really look forward to the exchange of ideas this board has the potential to create and to getting to know all of you better. I have exchanged a few emails with Geoff and intend on picking his brain for a thesis paper I have in the works. But perhaps now I'll pick all of your brains...that of course is for another topic and another day. For now let me just say hello and that I'm excited for these boards!!!

Hi Kevin. Welcome aboard, though it's supposed to be Geoff who says that stuff. I'm just burning to know: what is your thesis?

| Actually I am going to post my quasi- thesis under the philosophy of mind / consciousness section..all will be reveald. I can't wait to get some feedback and or others ideas on the topic...the basic idea is the idea of shared consciousness or that consciousness is not an entirely individual action. That minds are connected. More detail to follow. |

| I'm afraid, according to current rules that may not be possible. You have to be subscribed to one of the 'privileged' groups to do that, I think. Talk to Geoff about it, I suggest. |

Hello Kevin,
even though Chris has beat me to it ..... Welcome!
Thanks for joining our forum. I have read some of your correspondence with Geoff (I am his partner) and have always admired your surname. I admire other things though too, such as your enthusiasm! and your thesis sounds really cool.
I am reading a Jung book at the moment (his letters with quantum physicist, Wolfgang Pauli). I find his ideas on collective unconscious & synchronicity interesting (conducive to wsm) and hope i can learn more from you!
Chris, Geoff changed the Forum so 'moderators' can post anywhere. However, certain posts are locked (cannot be edited) and marked as 'sticky' or 'announcement' so they stay on top of each forum. If you go to second top forum section 'please read before registering' then you will find a post from Geoff on these latest changes. You and Beers (and starkey) are set as moderators so you can post anywhere in Forum.
This explains why there is now a very interesting post from Beers in the Philosophy of Mind section (which geoff and I will enjoy commenting on later).
Cheers Beers,
Karene |
