"When forced to summarize the general theory of relativity in one sentence: Time and space and gravitation have no separate existence from matter. ... Physical objects are not in space, but these objects are spatially extended ... thus the concept of particles cannot play a fundamental part, ... and can only appear as a limited region in space in which the field strength or energy density are particularly high."
(Albert Einstein, Metaphysics of Relativity, 1950)
"It is my firm belief that the last seven decades of the twentieth century will be characterized in history as the dark ages of theoretical physics. ... The quantum world is a world of waves, not particles."
(Carver Mead, Professor Emeritus at Caltech. Received $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize in 1999)

Hello WSM forum!
My name is Ryan, aka urbanspaceman, and I am a Candian Graphic Artist who is living and working in London, England.
My own website is;
This is nothing to do with physics or philosophy, but is just an artist's self promotional website. (Geoff mentioned Phillipe may be interested, since I've worked in advertising).
I've been interested in philosophy and physics (and many other subjects) all my life, and this eventually led me to Geoff's SpaceAndMotion website.
What happened last year was that an artist friend of mine encouraged me to read David Deutsch's "Fabric of Reality", which he thought was the most interesting book he'd read in a long time. Interesting, but also incredibly frustrating, because Deutsch is certain, arrogant, and not wholly persuasive. His multiple-worlds take on the wave/partivle duality, which is a particle model with wave patterns caused by interfering alternate realities, is creative but not totally convincing given equal plausiblity of other suggestions.
I started thinking, why is Deutsch so certain there are particles, anyway? Why is any physicist certain? I started searching the net for alternate theories, assuming at least one person in cyberspace had proposed a better solution. At first I came across a model that had particles travelling in spirals, which was smart but not that satisfying. Then I happened upon Geoff's site that talked about Milo's work. This was the most sensible and convincing solution to wave/particle duality I'd come across.
The more I read about it the more I became convinced of it's validity, and that Milo's work is a milestone for physics. Geoff's work connecting the Space Resonance theory to other areas of philosophy is also very useful, unifying, and powerful.
I look forward to seeing what develops here! I am very interested in getting these ideas out into the world, so hopefully it can begin with this small community.

Hi Ryan,
Just so everyone knows.
I AM REALLY PLEASED THAT YOU ARE HERE.
You have sent me a couple of remarkable emails. Both Milo and I think you are very bright (as you know) and it is just great that you are here discussing things with us.
I really do believe that if we can get a (relatively) small but smart group of people working together on this new foundation for understanding ourselves and the universe, that in time we can have a serious affect and influence in the world.
The internet is changing all the rules for the evolution of human knowledge and culture, the organising of how we think and live on this planet.
It is a great challenge. Hope we can do good things and have some fun along the way as well.
So a big welcome from Geoff and Karene! |

Big hello to the urbanspaceman!
Wow!!!!
I have just checked out your website and I am very excited! Your video clips are wonderful. I have only watched 'motion graphics and you' and 'narcis sandwich'. I love the kitsch 50s style of the former. Geoff and I had a good laugh! Really amazing work!!
I just wanted to let you know that before i knock off for the evening - my eyes are sore from working on computers all day, so I will go back to your site in the morning. fun! I love film and hope to make a doco about Geoff and WSM one day soon (when we can retire from the leviathan website).
I have read some of your correspondence with Geoff and have been meaning to introduce myself. I am his partner (if you haven't worked that out!) We are so very glad you have joined the forum!
I really enjoyed your 'rubber measuring stick' post. It was lovely to read about you figuring it out and helped clarify my own understanding.
Sounds like you have a very interesting life - I would love to listen to einstein in the library! One of the perks of living in a big city, i guess.
amazed,
Karene |
